Reading in 2014 - Book 29 - The Age of Miracles by Karen Thompson Walker.
I have to say I really loved this book. It was a quick read, I finished it in only a few bus rides and before bed sessions.
Don't let the title throw you, the book isn't as sappy as it sounds. It's about a teenage girl and her crush on a guy and her relationships with her best friends and her parents ... um, except it's all set to an insane backdrop of what may be the end of the world.
They call it "the slowing", the earth's rotation slows down more and more as the book goes on, and it starts messing with the planet. The days and nights grow longer and longer. Some people decide to stay on "clock time" and others choose to go with their natural circadian rhythm, sleeping longer and being awake longer.
It's a really cool concept, and I love how the main character's perspective remains realistic. She still cares just as much about her regular life and being invited to parties and stuff as a real person would, even as the world slows down.
I definitely recommend this one. It's not a huge commitment and it's really interesting and touching. 8.5/10
